'Women in the press box. So it's come to that.' I feel a spark of anger. I remember how I wanted to howl with frustration all through my growing up, at how limited the options were for girls; at how all life seemed to consist of was people telling you what you couldn't do, not what you could do; how if you wanted to be something new or different then you'd be called over-ambitious or unfeminine or, worst of all, odd. Well, even if I am, so what? It isn't HIS press box. What gives men like him the right to say who's allowed in and who isn't? Why shouldn't a woman be a sportswriter? Sport is for everyone. It's playing, it's belonging, it's great deeds and huge emotions, it's a natural expression of being human, part of life. I've been given the chance to show what women are capable of, and I am not going to let a dinosaur like him get in my way. Book jacket.
