Q: If I place an order, how long will it take to be delivered?
A: Books displayed on BookHub are in stock now, so delivery times will depend on your proximity to the store and usual courier processing times; usually 2-4 business days. Many bookshops will confirm receipt of your order on the same day that your order it, but in case you order outside of business hours, you should expect confirmation by the next working day for that bookshop.
Q: What is BookHub?
A: BookHub is a collaboration between Booksellers Aotearoa NZ and New Zealand’s independent bookstores. With BookHub, you can search for your favourite titles and authors and immediately see which stores have copies in stock. Using the geolocation feature, you can see which of your nearest bookshops have stock available, by clicking on ‘sort by closest to me.’ From there, you have three options: adding the book to their cart, where you’re taken to the website of your chosen bookshop; opting for a click and collect; or visiting your bookshop and purchasing the book there. BookHub is not a distributor. It does not compete with existing independent bookshop websites; it enhances and supports their online presence.
Q: Where do my books come from?
A: Bookhub is an online collaboration of independent bookstores throughout Aotearoa New Zealand. You select the bookstore you want to order your book from. The bookstore you select will send you your book. Your order and payment will be acknowledged by that store and they will ship your book to you.
Q: How do I know the price I’m paying is competitive?
A: Prices are clearly visible alongside each store that has copies available. Stores may choose to apply RRP or any other prices at their discretion, and you are able to compare prices before selecting which store you place your order with.
Q: The book I want isn’t showing up in BookHub. How can I buy it?
A: BookHub has more than a million titles available for purchase, but if the book you want isn’t listed on BookHub, please call or go to your nearest bookstore who will be able to order it in for you.
Q: What happens if I change my mind after placing my order?
A: If the book is a gift or if you are unsure if it's the correct book, please be sure to ask for a Booksellers exchange card with your order: this will allow you to exchange your book at any bookshop that is a member of Booksellers NZ. Find the directory of Booksellers NZ members here www.booksellers.co.nz/find-bookshop.
Without an exchange card, you can still exchange your book with the bookshop you have bought it from, but unless you are able to take it to the shop in person, you will need to pay for return postage.
Q: If a book I’ve ordered arrives damaged what do I need to do to get it replaced?
A: Please contact the supplying store directly and make arrangements to return your damaged book and receive a replacement or refund.
Q: What are the advantages to using BookHub?
A: BookHub is easy to use and ensures fast delivery of your book. BookHub is local. When you use BookHub, your purchase directly benefits NZ booksellers. It supports NZ communities and keeps your money in NZ. Any questions about your order can be quickly resolved by calling the bookseller for a real-person chat. BookHub stands up to offshore competitors. Using BookHub means it’s likely you’ll receive your book more quickly than if you used an overseas e-tailer. Once you take the cost of postage into account, it’s probable your book purchase will be cheaper than using an overseas e-tailer, and because you are drawing from inventory already here in NZ, a purchase from BookHub is more sustainable.
Q: What if my purchase is a gift... can it be exchanged?
A: If the book is a gift or if you are unsure if it's the correct book, please be sure to ask for a Booksellers exchange card with your order: this will allow you to exchange you book at any bookshop that is a member of Booksellers NZ. Without an exchange card, you can still exchange your book with the bookshop you have bought it from, but unless you are able to take it to the shop in person, you will need to pay for return postage.
