Author description

Richard Platt has written more than 30 books, many of which have maritime themes. His other books include Cross Sections: Castles and Castle Diary, which was shortlisted for the Kurt Maschler Award, the TES Junior Information Book Award and the New Generation History Book of the Year Prize. Chris Riddell has illustrated many children's books, including Hans Christian Andersen's The Swan's Stories, translated by Brian Alderson, which was shortlisted for the Kurt Maschler Award. In 1999 he was Highly Commended for the Kate Greenaway Medal for Castle Diary. Chris is also a cartoonist for The Observer.
