Summer 1976, Frances is scraping by teaching English in Mexico when she encounters a group of glamourous Americans, the Severance family, and embarks on an illicit romance destined to end in betrayal and tragedy. Two decades later in rural England, Frances encounters her own betrayal, when she discovers a love letter addressed to her husband. Simultaneously, she faces a life threatening illness which forces her to confront her own past deception and to relive the haunting memories of her heady desert encounter.
